Dragon Quest VIII Weekend
So much for doing work.
Went off to visit the in-laws who had just come back from a trip to Maine. They brought back some gifts, one of which was this:
SSX 3.
An oldie but a peerless CLASSIC. One of the most fun games I have ever played in my life. The music, gameplay and sheer insanity of the tricks you could pull off made me go for this even over the formidable Tony Hawk series.
And there’s still a script to write as well as Dragon Quest VIII to play.
I’m so screwed…

Oh, the influence you have on others Wayne!
So, I picked up Dragon Quest VIII yesterday, based mostly on your reccomendation and the fact that several other online reviews made it sound like a lot of fun.
Haven’t had time to play it yet, but I thought you should know that when you talk about stuff on this blog people (assuming I can be classified as such) do listen.
P.S.
After avoiding San Andreas for several months now, I finally got up the nerve to face Flying School and got past that monkey on my back in just three infuriating sittings. I never want to do that last helicopter one ever again–silver and gold medal be damned, I’m more than happy with my bronze.
Take my advice; LEVEL THE HELL UP. I’m 50 hours into DQ VIII now and am still constantly amazed by how I think my character’s current level is suitable to the task only to walk in and still get nearly killed in dungeons…
Yeah, I figured that out when the Zombie Priest in the ruined Abbey kicked the shit of my group without even breaking a sweat. As a result I’ve spent the past two hours leveling up like crazy (I think I hit 17 or 18 before I quit). I have to say that as my first traditional RPG experience (Kingdom Hearts not being turn-based) I’m really enjoying the game. Since it’s my first game I don’t know how much of what I’m liking is normal or individual to the game, but I love details like how you can boost Jessica’s sex appeal until it causes monsters to stare at her in hopeless adoration. It’s a shame I have a book to finish in the next couple of weeks or I would be devoting a seriously insane amount of time to this game (that is almost as much time as I suspect you have spent thus far).
