Still More Work

So now there’s a travel show that I need to contend with as well. Someone I did some work with in the past has out of the blue asked if I could help on the show. Man, for a guy that hates work I sure do get a lot of it coming my way lately…

Tea With Nerds

Spent the evening hanging out with an old friend here by the name of James, his younger brother, and a bunch of their guildmates. Yes, they play World of Warcraft, a game that I know better than to touch after nearly getting hopelessly lost in the vortex that was Star Wars Galaxies. It’s always a bit jarring to move from one game culture to the next. I mean, even though we’re all gamers, to hear WoW gamers discussing their tactics and adventures while someone else is talking about the intricacies of Company Of Heroes (An amazing WWII game for the PC) is like two different dialects of the same language…

Still Busy

Sleeping schedule is kind’a sort’a getting back on track. The Wife is still sick, and I still have a lotta’ articles and documentary related stuff to crank out. And I got my ass kicked on the final boss of Xenosaga III, so I think I have some grinding to do. Agh.

Treatment-O-Mania

The Wife is sick with some kind of gastric flu, I have just had my most successful run on Monster Hunter Freedom ever, with no failed missions, and I have to two treatments for the game documentaries to get out. Oh and a bunch of articles for GameAxis besides.

By golly I’m a productive little spud…

Busy Again

In a strange twist of fate, just as some work slides off my plate, more work arrives. The video game documentary I am writing has a “partner” of sorts in that there’s an additional game based documentary being produced by the same company. Suddenly I am being asked to write that as well.

The universe works in strange ways…

Suddenly I Have Less Work

It now turns out my schedule is somewhat more free. After a few episodes, the series I was working for about Singapore neighborhoods decided to boot me off the project. Mostly it was because when I first started I told them, “I’m in an office 3 days out of the week and can’t do research.” They said that was fine, but as the episodes came in, it became more and more obvious it actually wasn’t fine. The researchers they hired had no research or interview experience, and had no storytelling experience and didn’t know what to look for. I just cobbled together whatever they could give me and hoped for the best. It became apparent after a while that the result of this, were scripts with strange, almost pointless bits of information and no real story structure, just random info-bytes strung together.

I actually have to admit, I’m relieved. The money would have been nice, but the project itself was stupefyingly boring and I guess I’m just too much a foreigner to unironically engage in “a celebration of the Singapore common man” when half the time I’m trying to point out that most Singaporeans are trying to avoid just such a fate.

We Now Return To Normal Time

Work was done at the GameAxis office and the scripts were handed in on time.
