It Bleeds, My God, It Bleeds…

The latest script for the children’s comic (and for you Singapore readers, no, we didn’t put our names on it by choice, we just found it a bit embarassing) is done and ready to be illustrated. And my teeth are now recovering from the scarred and bloody assault that is known as a dental check up and cleaning.

What amazes me is that I was dead certain the dentist was going to take one look at my teeth and tell me that something had to be extracted, filled, drilled or otherwise mauled in a bloody mess of an overhaul because I hadn’t stepped into a dental office in over 10 years. Incredibly–and even the dentist was impressed–there wasn’t a single cavity to be found and the reason I had a toothache was because of a minor infection and inflammation of the gums. So he took those awful dental implements of his and tore and scraped away at my poor gums, removing all that crap that had accumulated in the intervening time and when I rinsed my mouth out, I was alarmed to see I had probably bled enough in my mouth alone to transfuse a small child for surgical purposes.

It goes without saying that I did not eat a nice tough steak or start packing away the rock candy after the shredding my mouth endured.

So the score thus far: Me: 1, Cavities: 0, Plaque & Tartar: 2.

There will be a return to the dentist again to check on the state of my gums and do a bit more cleaning, but it looks like some how, some way, all that daily brushing actually did it’s job. I owe a debt of oral health thanks to Aquafresh and Oral-B…
