Curiosity Abounds

Got this in the mail from eBay.  This is just about the ONLY way that I would buy this game; used for less than $20.  Of course the name of the game isn’t “Fail” but Lair.  It was released last year on the PS3 and is now the record holder for worst game on the system compounded by an enormous amount of hype behind it as a killer app that would show off what the PS3 can do and be a “must have” title.  Ordinarily I would have ignored this game, but it go sooooo much bad press in the wake of all the positive hype that my curiosity has gotten the better of me.  That and they’ve patched what is the single biggest flaw that most critics were hitting on; the game initially could only be controlled via SixAxis motion detection.  In other words, you didn’t steer your dragon (you fly a dragon in this game) by simply moving a control stick up, down, left or right.  No, to make your dragon climb you had to tilt your entire controller up, or tilt down to dive, or bank your controller left or right to make turns in those directions.  If you think that sounds horribly inaccurate, it is.  But in the wake of all the complaints, Factor 5, the development company released a patch that added traditional controls.

I can see why.  I only messed with the opening level and tried to give it a shot using the SixAxis motion detection.  10 minutes later, I was sooooooooooo happy I could now go into options and reactivate the traditional controls, because it kind of feels like you’re trying to make a tug boat as responsive as a ninja, using the Force and Yoda only just taught you how to move things with your mind 10 minutes ago.  Frustrating?  You betcha’…
