They Do Scrape

< ![CDATA[Just another rainy Saturday in Toronto.  We spent the better part of the afternoon running errands in China town and the clouds were so low that looking at some of the buildings in downtown was a bit freaky since they were actually swallowed up by the clouds.  It was a bit freaky looking at the CN Tower and only seeing the "trunk" of it while the rest of it just vanished in a ceiling of white.  Other than that, I messed around more with Wipeout HD and got this nifty photo of the "sky track" which is actually suspended in the clouds.

Dullness

Another quiet day where some comic was written and, just for the hell of it, I pulled out Heavenly Sword and played it again.  And finished it in one sitting.

The comic, by the way, is a new one.  This isn’t Nowhere, which is still ongoing, but is currently on hold.  This one is another idea the Wife came up with, a much shorter story that can actually be told in one tpb, or in this case, perhaps, manga sized compilation.  Can’t talk about it much yet for obvious reasons, but when it’s done, we’re probably going to entirely ignore the hassle of looking for a publisher and just go the self-publishing route.  At the very least, being a “local work,” we’ll immediately get some street cred with the Canadian government for going the self-publishing route, and we might even be able to convince stores like The Beguiling to give it a shot.  Who knows…

Writing Things Up

Aside from finishing up and sending off an article to High-Def Digest not much to talk about…

The Day After

But Merry Christmas and all that to ya' folks out there.  The Wife is now the proud owner of some Captain Harlock In-Action Figures, and a book of production art from Studio Ghibli.  And me... let's just say I'm going to be very, very busy with the gaming...

Easing Down

I did some article writing and played a little bit of Grand Theft Auto IV on multiplayer. It’s fun, but it’s also the kind of thing where it quickly becomes apparent that this is a separate game entirely that will require a different set of skills and even more dedication to playing if you want to get anywhere. Still, it’s a blast to be running sitting in a helicopter looking down at Times Square and knowing that the car jittering around like a hornet on the ground trying to dodge your rocket fire is an actual other player just trying to stay alive. Thrill of the hunt and all that, I guess…

So. Damn. Cute.

< ![CDATA[

Well it may the the “Halal Edition” thanks to a surprising bit of controvesy surrounding the game, but we did finally get the game everyone’s been citing as another reason to get a PS3.  And it’s incredibly cute and incredibly fun.  The Wife is actually getting a kick out of playing it along with me, so, like Rock Band, this is another game we can enjoy together.

Tomorrow

It’s been YEARS since I was able to play the phenomenal Wipeout series on a console.  While the PSP iteration is almost permanently glued to my PSP, this title is one of the reasons why I got a PS3 in the first place.  I really hope this game lives up to its heritage and if it does, it will be a hell of an experience.

And Done

100% completion on Grand Theft Auto IV has been achieved, thus carrying on my insane tradition of doing this for every GTA game since the franchise went 3D on the Playstation 2. At first I didn’t quite get it once the final credits rolled, but a little careful backtracking revealed I’d forgotten to take one of the in-game buddies to a strip club, and that gave me the 1 point something percent I needed to see my game completion go triple digit. Of all the GTA games I’ve played, this was one of the easiest to actually get 100% on, they’ve definitely made the requirements less demanding to take more casual players into account.

Of course there’s still multi-player to mess with, so in a sense, the game is still not really “over.”

But man. What a ride. One of the best games of the year, though I think Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots might give it a run for its money.
