MC Of Rock

It’s actually just after 3 am, but as far as I’m concerned this is the end of “the day,” so it still counts.

We packed up the PS3 and all the Rock Band gear and schlepped it down to a hall that a friend of ours was using for his birthday party.  Because the hall was actually part of an apartment complex that was formerly a school, said friend decided to make it highschool themed birhtday party, with the Rock Band area (thrown up on a wall thanks to a digital light projector) carrying an official tag on the wall that read “Audio/Visual Crew.”

Much to my surprise, despite the fact that lots of people there had Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band experience, no one played any instrument on Expert.  Also to my surprise, Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi was not played once the entire evening and in fact the most popular regularly played song was Roxanne by Sting n’ the boys.

Unsurprisingly, because this is, after all, Toronto, the most frequently played band was Rush.

All in all, a good time was had by all.  But my right arm now feels like it may fall off.

Extra Space

I was planning on doing this eventually, but the current trend in games necessitated a sooner move over. Our original 60GB Playstation 3 is now bumped up to a 160 GB of storage space. I thought 60GB might be enough initially, but in recent months a lot of games have been coming out that require installations of anywhere from 1-5 GB, and that started eating away at the storage space fast. At least with 160 GB, this gives much more room to grow before I have to start deleting things to make room. And it’ll probably come in handy anyway since Sony is planning on finally bring those movies and TV shows it owns via its studios to the Playstation Network and online store.

Making Friends

The infamous round of “man dates” in Grand Theft Auto IV now begins as I do nothing but play pool, darts, go bowling, check out comedy clubs and hang with strippers in my effort to make friends with varioius characters in Liberty City.

Almost There

Sitting at about 85% completion now, all that’s left are assassination missions, helping out “random friends” and finishing the actual game itself.

Damp Childhood

It turns out we've got a leak in the ceiling and it goes crazy every time the neighbor upstairs uses his bathroom sink.  Fortunately none of the canvases and frames we had stored in there were damaged, but it's a bit sad that a lot of the work that chronicles the Wife's tentative steps into full blown professional artist are now soaked.  I spent the entire afternoon with a hair dryer in hand trying to save what I could but this would seem to have been going on for some time as some of the works, particularly those done on illustration board, have a funky black mold growing on them which has more or less destroyed whatever was on there.

Oh well...

Still Playing

Oh don’t worry, the game will be finished one of these days… Probably before June 12th, since that’s when Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots comes out.

I would reccommend Star Wars:  The Force Unleashed to fans of the films.  As a game, it’s generally okay, but has some glaring mechanical flaws that can occasionally drive the whole experience to a screeching halt in frustration and disbelief, but since these moments mostly relegate themselves to boss battles, the rest of the experience is generally okay.  It’s also got a story comparable to the original trilogy, and is actually a damn sight more interesting than the new trilogy.  Of course, for Star Wars fans the biggest thing is that the plot line is here is considered canon by ol’ George who had a hand in crafting the story, so for folks that wanted to find out what happened between Epside III and Episode IV, this is it.  It also leaves a few plot holes big enough to drive a mac truck through, but when George is involved, can you really expect anything less?

On the whole, a decent game plagued by mechanical design flaws and not much replay values.  I’m generally in agreement with most critics and I’d give it a 7ish, 7.5ish grade if I were reviewing it.
