Gamer Hell Froze Over

The Geek-O-Sphere (depending on which “side” you’re on) was either in abject misery or sadistic joy this afternoon when Microsoft ended their E3 Press Conference with the atomic bomb that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the Xbox 360 as well. Which is pretty much like saying Halo is going to be on a Sony console, something that, up until now, was considered nigh impossible.

I can only begin to speculate at how much money had to be exchanged at this since the Square-Enix president admitted this was an incredibly recent decision. The way it’s going to work is that the PS3 in Japan still gets FFXIII first, and then, for the English version, the PS3 version will have to wait until the Xbox 360 version is ready, so the English speaking world will get a simultaneous release of the game on both consoles.

I’m kind of torn on this. In one sense, I feel like my girlfriend has just said “I think we should have an open relationship.” On the other hand, there’s a sense of glee at how much pain this will cause the more extremist PS3 fans who’s excesses have made ashamed of my machine on more than one occasion and who’s ramblings on the internet have actually made me hate Sony on occasion because it’s responsible for creating such frightening collection of religious fanatics.

Oh well, I suppose if they’re suffering right now, it’s all for a good cause.

And in other E3 news… this song has been confirmed as in Rock Band 2.

Yup. Still love you, Harmonix, even if you are on the Microsoft payroll too.

  • There are at least six songs here that are making my head explode, but none more so than “Tangled Up In Blue”. My god, that is going to be so awesome!

  • I’ll take a guess and say that “We Got the Beat” is one of them, so what are the other four?

  • Actually, I’ve already done the whole “We Got the Beat” thing on Rocks the 80s, so the other five were:

“You Oughta Know” — Because I love me my Canadian relationship revenge songs.

“Alex Chilton” — Because The Replacements are definitely in my top five best bands of all time.

“Eye of the Tiger” — Because it’s FREAKING “Eye of the Tiger”!

“Pretend We’re Dead” — Because L7 are so NOT square.

“Psycho Killer” — Because it’s one of the only songs in my limited vocal range.

Speaking of Rock Band, a couple of days ago I gold-starred “Gimme Shelter”on Expert. Is it obnoxious that since then I’ve told this to virtually every person I know?

  • re: FFXIII…so, you might know how I feel about Civilization as a console game…
