I’m firmly convinced that Sony now realizes a certain portion of their gaming demographic is affluent and eccentric enough to enjoy “recreational pharmaceuticals” as part of their 21st century, hip, trendy lifestyle. That’s the only possible explanation for the fact that they keep releasing interesting titles that just scream for being under the influence of some kind of drug. PixelJunk Eden, their latest addition to downloadable games on the Playstation Store is another example of this.

There’s really no way to adequately describe the game. I could say “You control a little spider thing that jumps around a day-glo garden, ramming into pollen-esque creatures and then swinging with its web in circles to send the pollen streaming into the nearest seed, so as to make it bloom into a plant with which to further explore the garden,” but that really doesn’t do justice to ambient techno beat, gradually shifting colors, or strangely addictive yet relaxing gameplay the title offers. On the other hand if I were to simply hand you a tab of LSD, wait 20 minutes and then put a PS3 controller in your hand, you’d “get it” immediately.

Other than that, we did the incredibly domesticated thing of finally going out and buying a curtain rod and curtains for the living room. It’s official. We’re settled down.
