Back To The Last Generation
Sunday was largely spent revisiting another one of those PS2 games I’d been meaning to play for a while but hadn’t, though a copy of the game was dutifully purchased and put on the “back-log.” That time is now, I guess, and Odin Sphere is getting some serious spin-time in the PS3.
It has the basic characteristics of any Atlus game; dark plot, complicated characters and the lingering suspicion that this Will Not End Well. But it’s also got some of the most beautiful 2D illustrated artwork of that last (or even current) generation of games, and I have to admit that after so many years of being exposed to polygons and 3D environments, going back to some gorgeous 2D is a breath of fresh air.
I never thought I’d be saying this in this 21st century world of gaming we live in, but I really miss 2D. I wish more titles would go back to this.
