Damn
So I finally got around to seeing Avatar last night. This is another one of “those” movies isn’t it? I can imagine myself being 14 years old again and thinking this was one of the most important cinematic experiences of my life as a science fiction nerd. But not being 14, I can only appreciate what this movie must be like for someone to whom the themes and lack of familiarity with digital effects would be new. As is, I still really liked the movie, and there were some things in it that genuinely had me going “Wow, okay I’ve never seen that before,” but I’m afraid I may be getting too cynical as I get older to really experience this movie as a “magical” virgin experience. The analyst/critic in me kept butting into my head from time to time.
But it still kicked ass. I envy the kids who are utterly blown away by this movie, because in some ways, I wish I still could be too.
