Pushed Back
Jaffe rescheduled for tomorrow. Locked up story meetings relating to Twisted Metal apparently.
Prepping
Got an interview with David Jaffe tomorrow. Better known as the man that gave us Twisted Metal and God of War. This should be interesting if he doesn’t chew me up and spit me out.
HOOOOOME!
I am back and my God does it ever feel good.
Good E3, lots of stuff to see, lots of developers to gush over. Personal highlight was shaking the hand of Alex Rigopolous (Prez of Harmonix, creator of Guitar Hero and Rock Band). Also, now having played that game for myself, it’s gonn’a be a LOOOOOOOOONG wait ’till RB3 comes out. Unfortunately, now I know EXACTLY what I’m missing.
Countdown
E3 is now just a couple of weeks away and I have my appointments more or less locked down.
Including a demo of Rock Band 3 and this fabled “Keytar” peripheral they’re going to purportedly showing off.
That Interview Thing
Still putting together the first draft on an article I’m writing about Capybara Games. I went down to their office today to have a sit down with Nathan Vella, the Capy prez. Much geekery ensued, but fortunately I got it all on digital recorder.
Back In The Game Beat
It’s been a while since a recurring print thing popped, and definitely a first as far as Canadian stuff goes, but I can now announce that Canada has its own video game magazine at long last, and I’m one of the writers. It’s called C & G Monthly, which stands for Comics & Gaming. There’s already a website up and running and the magazine is available in both print and digital versions. At a guess, I’d say the digital version is probably the easier to get right now since the magazine is only available at smaller newstand retailers right now, though distribution at bigger stores like Chapters and Indigo are in the work.
Hopefully this is the start of a new and long lasting magazine. When I was a kid, I still remember lovingly going over the pages of a new Electronic Games issue every month and wondering why it was that Canada never had a magazine of its own. That wondering only got more pronounced as the years went by and amazing companies like BioWare and Ubisoft Montreal started putting Canada on the map. Well, at least now I can stop wondering. I’ve got a couple of reviews and features in the magazine, and there’s plenty more lined up for the future. So yeah, you Canadian game nerds, you finally have a voice.
Lunch With Capy
Today was spent hanging out at the office of Capybara Games and then going down to a noodle house to hang out, talk and get to know them better. I’m writing an article about these guys, and they’re an all around good crew. I like articles like this.
Well That Didn’t Take Long
Somehow I got “promoted” on the Examiner from Toronto Video Game Dude, to National Video Game Dude. My pointless obsession with games is now being reported on a national level. Yay.
Sadly, no one actually wants to comment on anything I’ve written, but that’s Canadians for ya’…
Still, if any of you out there actually have, y’know, an opinion… feel free to voice it over there. Or just tell me what kind of articles you want to see written.
Local Pride

Thursday turned out to be Canadian Day on the Playstation Store, maybe even Toronto Day specifically. The Rock Band store got hit with two songs by Alanis Morrisette (Yeah, yeah, I know, she moved to Toronto from Ottawa and doesn’t even live here anymore. Rush does though. Whoo.) and even more importantly, a new downloadable puzzle game dropped called Critter Crunch done by Capybara Games. Frighteningly, their office is down the street. I should probably hit them up one of these days and hang out. It’s nice to see local game development get recognition like this.
And the game is DAMN CUTE.
Unfortunately Afrika has now been delayed to October 14th. Which means its now likely to get entirely ignored thanks to the work of A Dude Named Tim.
Wayne is on...
