The Outcast
So every hardcore gamer on the planet today was probably in line at midnight to pick up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the ultimate first person shooter for 2009.
I find it both ironic and a little bit sad that despite the fact that I’ve been gaming pretty much since the infancy of the medium, I’m STILL a marginalized nerd within a community of nerds because the FPS and genre is “mainstream” for gamers, whereas RPGs are STILL considered nerdy. I have no idea what this actually says about game culture that you can still be a nerd within it.
Weekend Of Dragons
It is still being an awesome experience. Bioware is totally blowing my socks off on this one.
It Continues
Damn. This is shaping up to EASILY be the RPG of 2009. Very impressed so far, and a lot of fun.
Giant Time Killer
With the arrival of Dragon Age: Origins, a great, big, beastly, huge, sprawling RPG in the tradition of Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights has once again descended upon the world from that complex tucked away on Calgary Trail back in Edmonton. This game is ridiculously huge. I’m going to have a lot of fun playing it. Although certain proponents in the Nerd-o-sphere are already crying foul over the “unreasonably liberal inspirations” the game seems to take from the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
Passed The Kleenex Test

Valkyria Chronicles continues to impress. I actually shed a few tears at one of the more emotional scenes in the game, something that hasn’t happened since the ending of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater .
There’s nothing particularly revoluationary about the story told here, but it’s told well, with great sincerity. That can do an awful lot for a game, especially considering the current level of narrative in games. Unless something else comes along that’s totally revolutionary, I think this title just became my favorite game of 2009. Even though it came out in 2008.
Another Quiet Sunday
Which is to say that the highlight was sticking the PS2 game Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Souless Army in when we realized we’d barely scratched the surface of the game. In the shuffle of other games, moving to the other side of the planet and then getting a PS3, it got put on the back burner in a big way. Which is a shame since it’s done by Atlus, which more or less means a certain minimum standard of quality gaming (and, perhaps more importantly, flat out weird) is to be expected from the experience.
Wayne is on...
