I Want To Be A Part Of It

Manhattan is Manhattan.  It’s big, bustling and you can’t throw a stone without hitting a half-way decent cafe or restaurant.

Packing

The Wife is headed off to New York for a few days, and I’ll be keeping her company.  We leave tomorrow.

HOOOOOME!

I am back and my God does it ever feel good.

Good E3, lots of stuff to see, lots of developers to gush over.  Personal highlight was shaking the hand of Alex Rigopolous (Prez of Harmonix, creator of Guitar Hero and Rock Band).  Also, now having played that game for myself, it’s gonn’a be a LOOOOOOOOONG wait ’till RB3 comes out.  Unfortunately, now I know EXACTLY what I’m missing.

Planning

After a talk with the editor of C & G Monthly it looks like it’s time once again to pack bags, check batteries and prepare for the onslaught that is the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Yup, I’m going again.

There & Back Again

And we are once again in the land of snowfall, polite people, traffic that actually gives right of way to pedestrians and restaurants that no longer charge $25 for a cup of coffee.

It is good to be home.  I also now find myself in possession of Assassin’s Creed 2 (to see whether the game really has been improved) and Eternal Sonata (a JRPG I’ve been meaning to get for a while now, that I found on sale in my old haunting grounds of GameScore at Funan Mall).

It was a weird experience going back.  This is probably the first time that I’ve ever flown this massive a distance and didn’t feel at all like a tourist.  Singapore is still… well, Singapore, although it’s always good to meet up with old friends and see how things are going.  Hong Kong is ever the Mean Fucking Town it ever was, although it was a little more relaxing to be back this time around since it wasn’t for work and I wasn’t running around like a headless chicken from one shoot to the next.  Southeast Asia is always going to be a fascinating experience, especially for people interested in good food, and truly cinematic “mega-cities” with crazy skylines.  But I’m a Canadian at heart, and Toronto is a much better fit.

As I said, it is good to be home.

Packing & Waiting

In less than 12 hours, it’s back on a plane for… oh, 15 or so hours… to return to Southeast Asia.

Timezone Hopelessness

With a change in timezone as drastic as Toronto to Singapore (A full 12 hour difference) it’s pretty difficult to try adjusting sleeping hours to accommodate the change.  So we’re not really bothering.  We’re going to bed a little bit later, to try and ease the pain of the early morning departure, but that’s about it, really.  With any luck, we’ll so tired by the time the plane takes off we might actually be able to sleep off some of that 15 or so hours crossing the Pacific.

There Will Be Preparations

And they have to be made fairly soon.  Next week The Wife and I return to Southeast Asia for 10 days.

Yep.  We’re visiting Singapore for five days, with another five in Hong Kong.

This should be interesting.
